My outdoor therapy room is situated at the entrance to a private outdoor space that is an acre in size. This indoor/ outdoor space allows for a natural setting to connect with during the therapeutic work. The space provides opportunity to sit and admire the view from the therapy room whilst feeling fully submerged in nature.
I believe the use of nature can strengthen a client’s experience of themselves and the world around them. Working outdoors can encourage a more effective relationship with your own sense of being, whilst connecting with the environment around us.
There is the potential for great flexibility working in this space guided by the preference of the client. All the boundaries of psychotherapeutic contact will still apply such as a mutually established goal for our work together as well the importance of confidentiality. Therapy in a natural setting can offer something that is both invaluable and immersive.
"Nature acts as a mediator of intensity in the therapeutic relationship and allows the client to be able to feel safe enough with the therapist to begin to form a therapeutic relationship"
